As a leading supplier with best-in-class solutions for information, electronics and consumer products, Primax Electronics held a groundbreaking ceremony today (September 22) in Zhubei City of Hsinchu County, establishing the Group's second R&D center in Taiwan. Faced with geopolitical tensions and trade conflicts between global heavyweights that are weighing on supply chain and production, Primax has taken the initiative to mitigate risks by reshoring its production and continue investments onshore to strengthen its core competencies.

Located across a river from the Hsinchu Science Park, Zhubei City, with its boulevard-like streets and sparkling new buildings, is bubbling up to be the new technology hub in the region and is ground zero for the burgeoning vigor of Taiwan's technology start-ups. Considering and evaluating all available options, Primax decided to make Zhubei City its new base for innovation development last year. Construction of the new site is slated to begin in the fourth quarter of this year and is expected to be completed and operational by early 2025. Primax’s state-of-the-art facility Zhubei plant will house an advanced laboratory, support industry-academia collaboration, and invest in R&D and new product development. Aside from serving as a R&D and incubation center, highly automated production lines will be installed in Zhubei for the manufacturing of higher margin niche products such as car ADAS, surveillance and security modules, and AIoT related applications and modules.

Primax's expansion in Taiwan is a commitment that encompasses the fundamental value of “think globally, act locally, and manufacture intelligently,” a tagline that is deep rooted in the Company's core philosophy.

Raymond Liang, Chairman of Primax, said: “Since its establishment 38 years ago in 1984, Primax has continued to grow its revenue and profit throughout the years with constant innovation. In the years ahead, with increasing global penetration of AI, cloud services and software applications, Primax is uniquely positioned to capture this growth with its “3 senses in 1” strategy by providing customers with an one-stop shop integration of interface, visual and audio technologies. While still at the early stages, Primax's commitment to new businesses and technologies is starting to pay off, as the Company is transitioning into promising new segments such as automotive electronics, industrial AIoT and other B2B applications and products. Automotive electronics and industrial AIoT products have grown robustly over the past year and is becoming more important to Primax's top-line, as the weighting has increased from 14% in 2Q21 to 21% in 2Q22.

Yang Wen-ke, Hsinchu County mayor, said: “Primax Electronics is a world-renowned provider of visual imaging solutions for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). We are happy to see Primax choose Zhubei City for their R&D center and we are particularly proud of Hsinchu County's role in facilitating that process, as construction permits and all the necessary paperwork were approved in less than a month since the application submission on September 12. Primax's Taiwan Innovation Hub is located in the Chang Yih Science and Industrial Park, at the heart of Zhubei City, adjacent to Taiyuan Science and Technology Park, and near Zhubei Railway Station, forming one of the liveliest technology hub and corridor in Hsinchu Metropolitan. Immersed in lush greenery and incorporating new concepts of smart city, Chang Yih Science and Industrial Park provides some of the best infrastructures and amenities in town and blends nature with urbanity. Once fully occupied, Chang Yih Science and Industrial Park will be home to some 4,000 professionals and engineers, with an annual output valued at over NTD 100 billion.

Designed by JJP Architects and Planners, Primax's Taiwan Innovation Hub sits on 7,728 square meters (sqm) of land, and has a gross floor area of 35,656 sqm. The building is three floors underground and six floors above, and incorporates eco-designs and concepts, making it a healthy, sustainable and comfortable environment for building occupants. For years, Primax has been eco-conscious and an active participant of environmental affairs, as various measures have been implemented in its business operations to promote sustainability. By incorporating green designs, Primax's Taiwan Innovation Hub is also a declaration of the Company's commitment to environment and sustainability. Earlier this year, on April 29, Primax joined RE100 with aims of using 100% renewable energy for its global operations by 2040. In addition, Primax has pledged to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040, a decade earlier than called for in the Paris Climate Agreement, and is fully committed to emissions reduction consistent with limiting global warming to 1.5°C.
